With a bit of reluctance, due to perfectionism, I‘m releasing the first public beta of ecto 2 for MacOSX. It has endured 3 weeks of intensive beta testing by several enthusiast ecto users as well as a bunch of newcomers. The rough edges and the nasty bugs have been dealt with, so this version should be relatively stable. It will still have some bugs, as all software do. If you feel like trying out ecto 2, download it, read the included documentation (especially upgrading.rtfd), and install it.
If you bump into a bug, by all means, provide me with a detailed report (beta forum) containing:
- The exact steps needed to reproduce the bug (any HTML or rich text that might be relevant)
- The settings for your ecto (e.g. is auto-saving drafts on?)
- A crash log, if any (should be in ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/)
- If the bug involves a connection issue, always reproduce first with the ecto console open (Window->Console or control-cmd-D). In fact, I recommend to always have the ecto console open until you’re sure ecto is working well with your weblog server.
- A list of haxies that you have installed on your mac (i.e Insanity haxies, SIMBL stuff, Input Managers. IceCoffee, for one, affects ecto editing).
For those who have been blogging with ecto 1, the “upgrade.rtfd” file included in the download is very informative about the changes. Please read it.
I hope you will enjoy ecto 2!
Btw, ecto 2 will be a free upgrade...

i must say, if you own a mac and do any blogging, or have ever thought about it. i have to highly recommend you give the beta version of ecto2 a try. the best has just gotten better. i'm amongst the proud and privileged few who were allowed to give this program a try during it's closed beta period, and let me be (not quite) the first to say: it rocks. i mentioned

[Life] "When it rains, it pours" can also have a good meaning: just after playing with MarsEdit the other Weblog editor ecto is bumped to version 2 . In fact, I'm now posting this entry with it. And I must say, I think we've got ourselves a winner here. (As much as I appreciate Brent Simmons great work and care for details...) The crucial criteria for me: it's got a WYSIAWYG (what you see is

Adriaan released the ecto 2 public beta today. Overall, a very good upgrade, but there is one problem that I’ve found. I can’t seem to figure out how to change the Formatting (I usually use Markdown with Smartypants to format my entries). When it changes to html mode, the formatting
a more intuitive interface for main entries and continuations, and I'm guessing some other features that I have not found yet. Ecto 1 was great. This one looks like a major leap forward in usability. If you're an ecto user already, I'd suggest gettng it . If you're not an ecto user, but you're a blogger using any of the major platforms, take a look. It's a big improvement over the web-based interfaces that most platforms provide. I'm happy to insert this tag:

Real stops selling music at a loss [ I just downloaded and I am trying out the 2.0 beta of ecto -- looks very slick so far and a great improvement over the old Kung-log. I like the easy with which I can create hyperlinks -- copy a link into the clipboard, highlight some text in the post, hit the link button. The link dialog does all the right

New Version of ecto I have used a couple of GUIs as a front end to my Movable Type blogging software. I liked ecto a lot. I have used it a lot. A new beta version is out. It's awesome!

I learned about Ecto through Boing Boing. Here are some of the great things about it: -It has an HTML guide (for those who don't sleep it -It is quasi-WYSIWIG -It has a small footprint And there are supposedly hundreds of cool things about it that I haven't discovered,

That said, there is potential there - it just needs to be much simpler to operate. I think people finding better ways to do things is great, I'm just not sure this is it. So, No, I'm not using Ecto. UPDATE: They have released a public beta so you can feel free to try it on your own. As I said, a lot of people I know love it, it just doesn't feel right for me.
